As the nation reached the grim milestone of 100,000 COVID-19 deaths, U.S. Rep. Bill Foster said Congress will continue to work to hold the Trump administration accountable for its failures in handling the pandemic.
Foster, D-Naperville, said in a statement he was âcommittedâ to continue working to identify how the country failed to push for a comprehensive plan for testing, tracing, treatment and vaccinations.
âWhile nobody is at fault for the COVID-19 pandemic, the complete lack of a strategy for nationwide coronavirus testing and worker safety is something for which the Trump administration must be held accountable,â the congressman said in the statement.
Foster last month was appointed to the House Select Committee on the Coronavirus Crisis, which provides oversight on the money spent to combat the pandemic and its economic consequences.
He acknowledged the scale of the loss of so many Americans to the disease, including more than 5,000 people in Illinois.
âItâs important to realize that while this crisis has caused deep economic strain to our economy, those whoâve lost friends or family members to the coronavirus are the ones whoâve experienced the most pain, and our thoughts are with everyone mourning loved ones,â he said in the statement.
Foster has also argued for Congress to pass more relief for those hit hard by the crisis. Earlier this month, he voted for the Heroes Act ,which would provide more direct cash payments to Americans and more aid to state and local governments.
